ABOUT YOUTH MOVERS UGANDA
Youth Movers Uganda (YOMU) was founded in 2009 as a Community Based Organization. YOMU is a registered entity under the Non-Governmental Organization Registration Act and awarded Certificate of Registration No. INRD149573662NB and Incorporation with Registration Number 119615 as of 16th June 2010. In January 2022, YOMU was accredited as a skilling Center by The Directorate of Industrial Training Center (DIT) with Center No. UVQF/1103 under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Sports.
YOMU operates in the following District in Acholi Sub region; Liasson office in Gulu City, Lamwo Refuge settlement, Omoro and its Head Office in Amuru District Pabo Town Council. Good working relationships have been established with local community leaders, private sector and District Local Governments, Office of the Prime Minister and UNHCR.
YOMU approaches in its intervention focuses on sustainable development that is mindful of the needs of today and of the future, with three tailored focus areas; Economic livelihood, Social Services and Sustainable Environment Management. All interventions are tailored and designed to address the needs of the young people and the entire community in a holistic manner. YOMU is a woman led and youth focused organization as reflected in its strategic plan 2023 – 2027. With a niche in increasing effective participation and productivity of youth at various levels with meaningful impact in the society. The organization has a staffing level of 14 with 50% women and 43% on the Board.
The influx of the refugees in Lamwo District caught attention of the organization to intervene in the settlement to address the urgent needs of the refugees and the host communities. Skilling of youth for gainful employment and economic empowerment in the areas of agriprenuership as core in addressing the challenges that the youth and communities are facing.
YOMU for the last 6 years has offered placements for both International and National students to do research and internship in the region and have hands on skills in pursuit of their academic and life skill experiences. We have offered placements to students from the following countries; two students from Netherlands and one from France others have been from universities in Uganda. We are open to receive students who are into leaning and exposure as well. We do help in having their protocols get approval and clearance from the relevant authorities too.
